On Saturday, June 27, a group from our church is going to Toledo (about 45 minutes away) to help a mission which has recently been established by Uruguayan pastor Gabriel Franco and his family. We will be handing out tracts and witnessing to people on the street and in a local park. Pray that the Lord would bless the sowing of the Seed, that hearts would be opened, and the new church could see people coming to know Christ as Savior.
Cecilio (Cecil), the man that we have been praying for his salvation since last fall continues to come both Sunday morning and Sunday evening. I recently started teaching/preaching through Romans. We have dealt with the condemnation of the Jews or religious people because this relates very much to Catholicism which is the major hang up that Cecilio has. As we move on into the righteousness of God through His Son Jesus Christ, we are praying that God will open Cecilio's eyes so that he doesn't miss the simplicity of the Gospel because of his religious upbringing. This Sunday we will be in Romans 4 where Paul uses the patriarch Abraham to illustrate that justification is not of works, but of faith. Keep praying for Cecilio's salvation.
One more blessing. About the first of the year a young couple from the Dominican Republic started attending our church. He is from an independent Baptist church in Santo Domingo but she has attended church very little. A couple of weeks ago she told me that she wanted to go to the discipleship class that my wife is giving to two other ladies who have been saved recently. She wanted to attend so that she can be baptized! It turns out that she was saved a couple of years ago, but never got involved in any church. Both she and her husband are very happy in our church and desirous to be involved. They will also be going to Family Camp with us in August. Both Juan Pablo and Anny are dentists and are working on getting their degrees recognized in Spain so that they can practice here as dentists. I will probably be baptizing her in September. Maybe Cecilio will also be ready. The other day he asked me how I would be able to baptize him since he has the one leg cut off just below the knee. I told him that we would take care of that later, but first he needs to be saved. |

The first weekend in April I had the privilege of working with Dr. Gib Wood (Woody), pastor of Rhineland Baptist Church in Germany. For the third straight year I was his translator in a weekend seminar designed to help ministerial students. This year's topic was homiletics. Six men from our church in Mostoles accompanied me to the classes which were held Friday night and all day Saturday. The picture was taken on Sunday morning when I had Brother Woody preach in our church in Mostoles.
The following weekend was Easter. We had an excellent turnout for our special morning services. Then in the evening the choir from the church that fellow missionary Bill Williams pastors in Leganes presented the cantata "The King of Glory" (in Spanish of course) in our church.
The third weekend in April our church hosted a one-day seminar on the book of Isaiah taught by missionary David Bell. We registered 49 young people and adults from eight different independent Baptist churches. The teaching was awesome. Becky did a great job of organizing, preparing, and serving breakfast and lunch to all of those in attendance. Of course she had help from several ladies, but especially one: Yanci, the Salvadorian lady who was recently saved and baptized, worked alongside Becky from early in the morning until all was cleaned up after lunch. What a wonderful disposition she has for serving others. In the picture Becky is the second from the left and Yanci is the second from the right.
Becky and I took Monday off to relax a little. She fixed a picnic lunch and we took off in a westerly direction looking for something we had seen on TV that morning. In the picture you see me standing beside one of four life size bulls carved out of granite over 2,000 years ago. Yes, you read that right. These bulls were sculptured by tribal people prior to the Roman conquest of Spain. There they continue to stand about 40 miles west of Madrid, totally oblivious to all that is happening. They have stood through wars, pestilence, plagues, climatic and political changes. No wonder that our God often uses the term ROCK to describe His immutability. One day these bulls will be gone, but our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8).
This is now the last weekend of April and we are taking it easy as we get back to our normal routine. What a blessing it is to be of service to others as we try to help them along in their Christian life. |
